As a female lawyer - I naturally followed the career and accomplishments of Ruth Bader Ginsburg with reverence and awe. And today I honour her life.
She was one of our original icons at SophieGrace and we have shared some of her most famous quotes with you on our feeds. But today this is the one quote that speaks to me about her fundamental life philosophy:
“If you want to be a true professional, you will do something outside yourself… something that makes life a little better for people less fortunate than you."
We know that 2020 is the year that keeps on giving. (Sarcasm!!!)
But as we all struggle with our own journey's through Covid19 and what seems like an endless stream of political upheaval and polaraization - there is truth in the fact that doing something for others will heal you and our communities more than anything else. It is balm that soothes. #rbg knew this. And lived it. Her retirement was never to be because she knew she could not step down during the Trump administration and so worked right up until her death. She did this for her community. Not herself.
As a Canadian I am free of the deep fears many of my American friends feel at her passing. But I feel you my American friends. I see you and I urge you to vote with her legacy at your back.
And let’s do something outside of ourselves.
